Upcoming Changes to Riskline Alerts on 1 October 2026

To better align Riskline’s Alerts with our clients’ needs and expectations, we are introducing the following changes:

1. New "Hotel" Subcategory
   Riskline will create an additional subcategory to indicate when an Alert mentions a hotel in the text of the report or a hotel is one of the specific locations included in the Alert's "Impact" data.

   Example:

   • "Hotel zone evacuated due to wildfire danger at Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport". This Alert would now have subcategories: Wildfires, Air travel, Public transport and Hotel.

   • In the Alerts API, the hotel subcategory would appear as below with an ID number of 48:

2. Changes to Commercial Aviation Disruption Alerts

   A) Limit Alert duration

   Disruptions to airlines' operations, routes, airports or airspace often occur suddenly. Once it becomes clear that the disruptions will persist, operators often announce the continued suspension of services for a long period of time (weeks or months). In some cases, services will resume earlier than expected.

   Currently, Alerts about commercial aviation disruptions have start and end dates corresponding to the entire period of the disruption. We have received feedback from clients that travellers do not need to be informed every day of the disruption. Therefore, these Alerts will have a single-day duration, corresponding to either the date the disruption begins or the date an extension to the disruption is announced.

   Examples:

     - Disruption announced: On 1 July, Egypt Air announced the suspension of Cairo-Baghdad flights between 15 and 25 July. This Alert would have a Start Date of 15 July and End Date of 16 July.
      - Disruption extended: On 15 May, Lufthansa reported that it would extend its ongoing suspension of the Frankfurt–Beirut service until 30 June. We would send this Alert with a Start Date of 15 May and an End Date of 16 May.
      - Service resumed: On 7 March, American Airlines announced the resumption of its currently suspended New York-Moscow route for 15 March. This Alert would have a Start Date of 15 March and an End Date of 16 March.
      - Airport maintenance: Runway works to trigger closures of Srinagar Airport in Jammu and Kashmir between 1 August and 5 November. We would send this Alert with a Start Date of 1 August and End Date of 2 August.

   Riskline will continue to monitor ongoing disruptions and issue a new Alert when an existing disruption is extended or there is a material change requiring further notification.

   B) Lower Alert risk level for ongoing aviation disruptions

   When airlines suddenly cancel flights or entire routes or when airports suspend operations, Riskline will often publish Alerts with risk levels at Medium or above to signal significant travel disruption will immediately impact travellers.

   However, when an existing disruption is simply extended by an operator, this is unlikely to have the same immediate impact on any travellers. Going forward, if an existing aviation disruption is simply extended and does not present the same immediate impact to travellers as the initial disruption, the subsequent Alert will be assigned a Moderate Risk level.

   Example:

• On 5 May, airBaltic extended its suspension of flights to Tel Aviv through 28 June, beyond the previously announced date of 31 May. This Alert will be sent at Moderate Risk with a Start Date of 5 May and an End Date of 6 May.

  This change would primarily affect: extensions of existing disruptions like airspace closures and restrictions, flight and route suspensions, and airport or runway closures and maintenance.

These changes will take effect from 1 October 2026.
